Our Orthodontists We aim to provide the very best quality of care for our patients. We offer contemporary Orthodontic treatment that can be tailored to meet patients’ needs. Treatments range from alignment of crowded teeth using “invisible” braces, right up to complex cases requiring jaw surgery to correct facial disproportion.

The Orthodontic treatment is provided by Jay Kindelan and Debbie Pledger. Jay and Debbie both work at York Hospital Orthodontic department, and work at Acomb Dental Practice on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Jay and Debbie work under the banner “Orthodontic Excellence”, which is a reflection of the standards we aim to achieve. Jay is Consultant Orthodontist and Lead clinician for Orthodontics in North Yorkshire, and Debbie is the Speciality Doctor in Orthodontics at York Hospital.

Jay qualified from Leeds Dental School with honours in 1985, working then in junior positions within Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He then spent 3 years working in general dental practice in West Yorkshire. Jay trained as an Orthodontic Registrar in Nottingham and Sheffield, followed by a Senior Registrar post between York and Leeds completing in 1998. Jay has been a Consultant Orthodontist since 1999, and presently leads the departments at York and Harrogate District Hospitals.

Debbie qualified as a Dental Surgeon in 1985, and attained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery from Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons in 1989. She carried out her Orthodontic training at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital London and Queen Mary’s University Roehampton qualifying in 1992. Debbie has published research into the effects of Juvenile Chronic Arthritis on facial growth in the European Journal of Orthodontics, and presented this as an invited speaker at Helsinki University.

The practice team is completed by Carol Hart and Jo Adamson. Carol and Jo are both experienced dental nurses with many years working both in General dentistry and Orthodontics. Carol also acts as practice manager for Orthodontic Excellence, and deals with the financial side. We can offer various payment plans for treatment.
