Sedation

Sedation is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for nervous people receiving dental treatment. It may be the answer if you are reluctant to change the appearance of your smile because you are afraid or anxious about undergoing long or complicated dental procedures while totally awake. Sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable with little memory of the treatment, helping you achieve a smile you can be proud of.

According to the Dental Organisation for Conscious Sedation (DOCS Education) 30% of the population avoids the dentists due to fear. This "dental phobia" prevents people receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health of their mouth and smile.

Terry Brown BDS Sheff 1982, DGDP(UK) 1996, Dip Dental Conscious Sedation
GDC No: 56926

Terry is interested in helping nervous patients cope with dental treatment and has many years of experience in using safe and effective sedation techniques.

He offers two types of sedation for both routine and more complex dental procedures. Oral sedation is where you simply take a tablet. Intravenous (IV) sedation is where the sedation is injected, usually in the back of the hand. Both have a similar effect but the intravenous sedation allows you to become very deeply relaxed and drowsy under more controllable conditions. Patients often say it feels as if they were asleep during their treatment and usually remember very little about it.
