Like hair and skin, teeth vary in colour. Some are yellower or darker than others, even when they are quite healthy. Teeth tend to darken as we get older and become stained from certain types of food and drink.
Tooth colour can be very effectively lightened using hydrogen peroxide gels specially formulated for dental use. The treatment is completely safe and does not harm the teeth in any way. Results can be stunning.
There are two ways by which we can whiten your teeth. One is a treatment you carry out at home and the other takes place in the surgery.
Home Whitening works like this:
We provide you with a peroxide jelly to use at home in a thin tray which fits closely round your teeth. You will need to wear the tray at night-time for some time (usually a few weeks) until your teeth reach the desired shade.
To make the trays, we need to make moulds of your mouth (called impressions). A second visit is required to fit the trays and show you how to use them.
Whitening in the Surgery works like this: ![]()
For those who wish for a reliable result in a shorter time are very pleased to be able to offer the well known Britesmile procedure which is a whitening treatment carried out in the surgery in just one visit.
We use a stonger peroxide jelly than is used for home whitening and apply it to all the teeth at the same time. Before the jelly is applied to the teeth, we protect your gums with a barrier material. We shine a special light on the teeth which activates the peroxide.
The process takes around one hour, during which time you may relax and watch a film with our DVD glasses.
After an hour the jelly is rinsed away and the results are apparent straight away - usually teeth are up to 9 shades whiter.
We can thoroughly recommend this treatment both for its convenience and effectiveness.
